Back To Life

Alex: The title track to the album. It’s about the creative spark. That spark is something that keeps me going, gives me something to strive for, gives me a rush of accomplishment when I finish a song. However, it comes with times where you stare at a blank piece of paper and think “what the f do I want to make?” And those times are rough.

So when embarking on this second album, I had this moment and zoned in on this idea. Without a clear creative spark, am I even alive really? Just going through motions, running from everything? And if I’m not inspired by anything, am I just inventing something that isn’t quite true? Somewhat a lie? So “back to life” represents figuring out who you are and what you want to say. Ironically, this song is exactly about that, and running from problems and justifying being alone as “not hurting others” is very me, and ultimately making music about my thoughts, emotions, passions is what I am.

I hear the thunder overhead

Step on the gas, outrun the storm

Riding through the desert alone

Is this a destination or escape?

Going to make a fresh start

After fucking up the last one

Heading out to the west coast

I still hear that storm behind me

I’m fresh out of stories to tell

And anything I say sounds like a lie

Better off here all alone

Nobody to hurt except myself

Looking for a path back to life

Losing traction around the bend

Gasoline is running kinda low

I’ve got your song on the radio

Listened about a hundred times

The pounding above is the sound of rain

Time to close all the windows

It’s getting dark, I scan the road

Need someplace warm to hide

I’m fresh out of stories to tell

And anything I say sounds like a lie

Better off here all alone

Nobody to hurt except myself

Looking for a path back to life

Was there ever really a chance

What could have been is lost now

Running from myself again

Maybe this time I’ll get it right

The wind whips around my face

I race into the last truck stop café

Just another weathered face

Waiting out the storm

I’m fresh out of stories to tell

And anything I say definitely is a lie

Better off here all alone

Nobody to hurt except myself

Looking for a path back to life

Back to life

I like pizza.
