Looking For My Heart
Alex: Certainly not going to win any writing awards for this one! The song itself is very passionate though because this idea is pretty central to me. It’s a dumb take on “wearing your heart on your sleeve” of course. The idea is that people who are not surface level, who build strong walls, are afraid to share, struggle to find connections, we are sometimes left on the sidelines because it takes too much work to “get to know us”. That’s pretty rough and builds that frustration and anger that comes through in the song.
This song (like many of my songs) deals with that isolation and frustration of not being able to connect easily with others. The music/lyric video is an interesting one, but I just felt like that footage fit the vibe of trudging through life as someone with a lot to offer, but not “easily accessible” to others. Sadly I could not find a spot to fit in a pizza shot.
Lost in the shuffle
This time I'm too tired to fight back
This is bigger than both of us
I see the distance in your eyes
Looking for my heart
You didn't bother looking past
my sleeve
I'm under the covers
Trying to shut...out...the world
And I can't keep up with you
I don't know if I want to
Looking for my heart
You didn't bother looking past
my sleeve
I thought that you left a message
I thought I could count on you
Choosing your words so carefully
Trying not to cause a scene
Like a hurt puppy, I slink away
Looking for my heart
You didn't bother looking past
my sleeve
I couldn't make a difference
Never got the joke
Didn't fit in the crowd
Failed to see the meaning
I thought that you left a message
I thought I could count on you
I'm under the covers
Trying to shut...out...the world
And I can't keep up with you
I don't know if I want to
I thought that you left a message
I thought I could count on you
Looking for my heart
You didn't bother looking past
my sleeve
