See Like You
Alex: This song is very simple lyrically (like much of my writing), but it is an important concept to me. I lament the fact that we seem to be losing empathy slowly. I don't know if it is our social isolation, or technology or whatever, but we no longer try very hard to really imagine what it is actually like for somebody else. What it means to be in their shoes. I very very very much appreciate people who take the time to do this, and although we may still disagree on stuff, they at least have a level of understanding. I try to do this as much as possible, but I kinda suck at it. I do believe we'd be better off if we all tried a bit harder to understand others.
Just waiting for my time
Like waiting for the bus
Decked out but feeling stuck
Alone and distant from
Everyone else out there
I stand and stare into the distance
Not sure if this is real
Hey man what’s the deal?
Can’t seem to shake this feel
There’s not much I can do
But I try to see like you
If you can just be me a while
Maybe we can walk this mile
Open my eyes again
Here comes the pain
Another day to screw up
At least I try to sympathize
See things through others’ eyes
Work out a compromise
Not sure why it’s so hard
We are all in pain anyway
Might as well try and lean in
There’s not much I can do
But I try to see like you
If you can just be me a while
Maybe we can walk this mile
There’s not much I can do
But I try to see like you
If you can just be me a while
Maybe we can walk this mile
